First off let me say I am a business owner and not necessarily a big fan of tattoos, however my wife decided that she wanted a small tattoo of birds on her wrists to symbolize our family. We made an appointment (last minute) with David at the front desk for her birthday to come in, have a consultation and come back later in the day for her to get her tattoo as a gift from me. David was amazing at setting this all up. When we arrived at the studio and the next morning we were made to feel very comfortable by the atmosphere and staff there. Everyone was upbeat and happy, the building (a historic house near uptown) and art were both beautiful and clean. The appointment process and receiving were super easy and efficient. We were led down the hall to the tattoo artists' work room whom she had the appointment with and I will not give specific details about our meeting with the artist but I will say that there was a clash of personalities and ideas between us and the artist about what her tattoo should be. Truth is, she felt uncomfortable with him and he really didn't seem to care much about what she wanted nearly as much as he did about creating what HE wanted. (However... I have to say that he was an AMAZING artist and I believe he would have created an amazing tattoo). It just wasn't the tattoo that my wife wanted. My wife felt uncomfortable saying she didn't like what he was wanting to do in front of him and I didn't want to push her on her birthday so we went ahead and paid a $100 deposit and made an appointment to come back at a later date as the artist had turned a 1-1 1/2 hour tattoo job that would have been done that day into a 3 1/2 - 4 hour job that he wasn't able to complete on her birthday. After paying our deposit and leaving I knew she was upset. I asked if this "new tattoo" she had an appointment to receive was really what she wanted and she almost started crying. Now if this was the end of my review, then I certainly wouldn't be leaving this business a 5 STAR rating! However it didn't end there. The next morning I called David to cancel her appointment for her and I fully anticipated and was willing to forfeit my $100 deposit. David was incredibly understanding and upset about what had happened. He made no excuses but took ownership of the situation as if this were his own shop. He said that there was no way he would keep our deposit and had it refunded. We ended our phone conversation and he couldn't have been any more apologetic. BUT! This review doesn't end there either! Later that evening I was contacted by Brandon (either the owner or manager). He was one of the most reasonable, understanding and professional people I have ever talked to. Refunding our deposit wasn't enough for him. He insisted that either my wife or myself get a tattoo... without charge if needed! He pleaded to have the chance to show us what HIS shop could do. WOW! That is crazy customer service in my opinion. He said that every day he strives to make sure that his shop is not only the best tattoo shop in North Carolina, but the best tattoo shop in the entire world. "If I can't do that" he claimed, "then why am I here?" I've never received that level of customer service at any establishment in my life. What he did next was even more amazing. He gave me his personal cell phone number and told me that he would be out of the country in New Zealand for a while but to please text him if we would like to get that tattoo and he would take care of it all from there! Any artist, any day. I do not lightly write 5 star reviews for businesses, but I could not offer a stronger endorsement of any business than I can offer for Made To Last Tattoo. This is coming from someone who doesn't even care much for tattoos in general! My wife was so happy to hear about his generosity as she truly wanted to get her tattoo done there. We are not going to bother Brandon while he is on vacation but we will definitely be getting her work completed there. Highly highly recommend.

Was here today (9-17-18) for my first piece. The entire staff was nothing other than professional, knowledgeable, and kind. I would recommend Made To Last Tattoo to anyone, without hesitation.
In response to the **only** 1-star review (out of hundreds), I witnessed the group of three drunk-adult guys who left the review boisterously come into the shop and demand piercings, which MTL does not offer. The manager was very patient with them and offered a personal recommendation for a shop that does do piercings. However, the guys weren’t satisfied, and decided to vent about it online.
Don’t let their negative review keep you from getting work done at Made To Last, they truly do a great job!

Had a great time getting tattooed by Zack Deaton! He is very kind and has awesome music taste! Easily one of the best tattoo experiences i've had in a while, he was quick, very clean, and (in my opinion) light handed.😌 Go see him for all your american traditional needs!!!🤠

Brian H rocked my first tattoo... pain wasn't close to what I imagined and spot on with the stencil. I love the facility but I'm partial to older homes. Very clean, and happy to see they're not as relaxed about Covid standards as the rest of the city.
