Black Serum Tattoo

Had a very specific idea for a tattoo, went through 2 iterations with Kevin and he did an amazing job with the artwork, super collaborative. The line work once we got to the actual tattoo is impeccable. Studio was the cleanest I've been in. Can't recommend it enough.

I had such a great experience at Black Serum and with Anita! The space is beautiful and clean. Anita is SO talented and amazing at making sure you’re happy with your piece and making you feel comfortable. Definitely will come back :)

Beautiful studio and even more amazing staff. I went to Anita and she was so thoughtful to make sure I was 100% happy with my tattoo before we began. Highly recommend going to her for STUNNING work.

I've been to Black Serum twice. Both times to see guest artists but I'd love to book with basically everyone that works there. The shop is amazing! Everyone there cares so much about even the smallest details and are really kind. The caliber of the artists that work there is incredible. I will be coming back!

From design to my day in the shop, it was a a breeze. After emailing with Kevin and sending a few ideas for my concept, he turned around an incredible design. This was my fourth tattoo at Black Serum and will certainly not be my last. Thank you Kevin for creating an amazing piece of art I will proudly display on my forearm.

Oro was a thoughtful, creative, and super professional artist. I brought tattoo design ideas with me, but we wound up creating something unique together. I appreciated his input both on design and placement. Black Serum is the best Tattoo shop in the city, having gone for three pieces. Oro is a welcomed addition to the team!

Black Serum was my best tattoo experience to date for several reasons: (1) quality of artists, (2) aesthetic of the shop, (3) cleanliness, & (4) positive social atmosphere.

(1) By simply perusing the website, one can see the skill and variety of the artwork provided here. When there in person, it is clear by the variety of clients and the style of the stations and the artists themselves that people here have a clear sense of space and arrangement with regard to aesthetic beauty. Every tattoo that came out of there over the 2 days that I spent there was gorgeous--and some of them were done by artists in training. The level of detail and minutia in my tattoos I found incredible, and largely unmatched when it comes to biological fine line work.

(2) If pressed, I would describe the inside of this shop as mod-apothecary. It is basically what a dream home is, if your dream incorporates the eerie, odd, sleek, and beautiful. It is incredibly modern with monochrome and stainless steel everywhere, and also has much antique and biological decor that blends the two worlds seamlessly. Every singular thing in there is black and modern--including the station cleaning supplies, tape, wires, etc. The entirety of the place speaks to the visual aesthetic and artistic awareness of the owner (and the individual artists at their stations).

(3) Especially during these Covid times, we are all concerned about sterilization. This was an immaculate and particularly clean shop, with virus-protocols in place. They take your temperature and ask you to apply hand sanitizer at every entry, and the entire shop is quite clean and beautiful, with stations being wiped down extremely regularly.

(4) I have been to a number of shops that feel awkward or tense because of some personal issues between artists, or the like. This shop felt so comfortable and familial that is was not awful being there for many hours at a time. Even the rotating artists who had English as a second language still seemed to be comfortable and colloquial with the other artists (plus, the fact that there were rotating international artists speak to this!).

In short, this shop is amazing, impressive, beautiful to be in, and was built from the ground up by a very conscientious and talented artist--this place definitely deserves a stop.

My artist was Siri and I cannot recommend her enough! She listened to what I desired, made a piece even better than what I had pictured in my mind, and on my skin it looks fantastic. I sat for ~4 hours (and my first tattoo) and she did her best to keep me comfortable the entire time. The shop is easy enough to get to using public transport / ride share and it is beautiful and clean. Other artists in the studio were friendly company. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the entire experience. I would absolutely get another tattoo from Siri at Black Serum. Highly recommend!

I got a forearm tattoo done by Emma today and it is amazing! From the very beginning, working with Emma was great! Emma is incredibly organized and professional. I submitted her thorough web form and she got back to me in under a week to set up a consultation as my idea was somewhat complicated and required a lot of discussion. The consultation was great! In 15 minutes we were able to go over some preliminary ideas she had mocked up and flesh things out a bit more. The week before my actual appointment she reached out to finalize the design. The day of was also wonderful. Emma was on time and incredibly professional. Her station was clean and well set up--as was everything at Black Serum. She works quickly and her art is so intricate and beautiful. Everyone who knew of my tattoo plans were shocked that she estimated only 3 hours to complete it--but she did! I am so impressed with everything about the experience. On top of allllll that, Emma is just a chill person who loves what she does and it shows. Enthusiastically recommend.

Got an amazing tattoo from Oro and would definitely recommend coming here if you’d like blackwork style of tattooing.

All the artists are incredible and also at O Tattoo Studio!!

They also have a lot of guests artists who come by, so I would follow them on IG just to stay updated.

I had a tattoo done by Sirimontra here at Black Serum and I am so happy with it!! Black Serum is a fantastically interesting tattoo space with all these great oddities and curiosities all around. So many interesting items to look at! Siri was so nice and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. I am very happy with the final product. Her lines are so crisp and clean. The quality and composition work so well with the placement of the tattoo. I would recommend her to anyone interested in getting a tattoo and will definitely be coming back soon!
