Spiral Tattoo

This is my best friends go-to tattoo shop. All the ones she has she’s gotten from Alexis at Spiral. When I went to visit her we went and got our matching tattoos (celebrating, now, 14 years of friendship). We went in and she drew up our tattoo and was very good at communicating with us on some things that she felt needed to be changed. Like the size of it, made sure the style was the one we wanted and drew up a couple of other ones for us to compare and choose which one we liked best.
I was nervous about getting it since I’ve only gotten one other tattoo (on my chest/collar bone area) but she made me feel comfortable. I’m very happy with my tattoo and absolutely love the colors. She was able to capture what both my best friend and I had imagined the colors to be. I will definitely be back there next time I visit Ann Arbor.

Alexis did an awesome job and was super receptive to what I wanted my piece to look like. She designed part of my tattoo and it looks great--you can check out her style of design on Instagram. She was very welcoming and friendly.

This place is awesome, amazing staff who are so patient and talented. Went with a friend to get her first tattoo and even though she was pretty nervous, they were super kind and helped talk her through the process and drew out a great design. They even stayed open late for us which was really unexpected. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing!! I got my seventh tattoo last night and I will never go any place else! They were so nice and did such an awesome job. I already have plans to go back. Jared did such a good job. I gave him an idea and he turned it into a master piece!

After doing quite a bit of research, I decided to get my first tattoo done here. I was really excited after reading such good reviews. However, my experience did not go as I hoped. I received a tattoo by Cole. After he drew up the tattoo for me and made a few of the changes I had requested, I had it done. However, it turned out nothing like my vision or the pictures I had shown him of what I wanted. After leaving, I called to follow up about the tattoo to see what could be done since I was extremely unhappy with it. In the end, Cole said that my changes put too much limitation on him as an artist. I had no idea this was an issue when the tattoo was being drawn up. Clearly, there was a huge lack of communication on his part that he felt my tattoo would not fit his style. He did not even offer to refund me but did offer a free touch up. However, I am not sure why he thinks I would go back to see him for more ink put on my body when he did not communicate with me that he felt like he was not a good match for my tattoo. I would have been more than willing to work with him to find a style that we both liked but instead, I am left with a brand new tattoo that I hate and have to get lasered off. I would never recommend this place to anyone. There should never be a lack of communication between you and someone who is going to leave their art on your body forever.

UPDATE: It's been almost two years since this event occurred. I am still in the laser removal process (which I started less than two months after I got the tattoo). Still do not recommend

Called ahead and asked if walk-ins were welcome. They accept them so I grabbed my stuff and went. When I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome and felt completely comfortable there. Everyone there was super cool and honest with their prices. The only downfall is that they do not take cards. They were super cleaned and the guy I had changed his gloves if he touched anything other than the tattoo equipment and my skin. Great music selection was playing and they keep a conversation to make you feel completely comfortable. I will absolutely go back again and loved everyone there!

One of the best tattoo shops in the region. The shop has gathered a great collection of artists specializing in a variety of styles of tattooing. They do mostly custom work, so you can bring in your ideas and work with the artist to turn those ideas into great tattoos.

I had originally booked an appointment a few months in advance at a different shop located in Ypsilanti. Unfortunately I got a call the morning of my appointment and my artist was sick and unable to tattoo me. I totally understand as these things happen but I was just too eager to wait another few months for an appointment.
This was my first tattoo and I was very nervous to go somewhere I was unfamiliar with, but when I called Spiral they said I could walk in and get it that day! since their portfolio on Instagram looks good I headed on over.
When I described what I wanted, my artist and the other employees were able to give me suggestions and tips to make my piece last longer and look more vibrant by adding outlines. I was very appreciative of of this information as the shop I was scheduled with previously did not tell me colored ink would not stay well without a black outline
I am just so glad that my artist and the other employees were so helpful and straightforward with making sure I would get the best quality tattoo, even though I wanted such a simple and quick design. I am also a huge wimp when it comes to pain so I'm sure tattooing me in general was not easy. So props to Cole for putting up with me! Overall I am glad that my original appointment got canceled and I ended up getting tattooed by Cole at Spiral Tattoo! My paw prints look great and I am sooo sooo happy with them! Thank you for suggesting the black outlines, it looks much better this way!

Steve did my mountain tattoo. It was my first and so I was a bit nervous but he made me feel more comfortable and did a really great job on the tattoo. I couldn't be happier with it.
