I haven't had the chance to full on experience Above The Rest Tattoo, but I have heard and seen nothing but good things come out of this shop. Jake is also an artist there and his working is never fails to amaze me. Definitely check this shop out before settling for another.

This shop was very clean and professional, they did an amazing job with my tattoo. I would 10 out of 10 recommend Sandra to anyone who needs a tattoo.

I got my first tattoo from Chris. I have never been so impressed by his professionalism and attention to detail. The end result was 10 times better than could have imagined. His shop is very clean and his staff is awesome. If your looking for the best tattoo shop in Alaska, ABOVE THE REST is the place you need to go. Keep up the good work guys. You will be world famous some day.

I didn’t get the opportunity to review Chris’s work because he cancelled my appointment a couple hours before it was scheduled to begin. I placed a $100 deposit and waited a month to get in. The day before my appointment I emailed him asking if I ought to come in and take a look at what he had drawn up for me; he said that I’d see the drawing the day of my appointment and that he was looking forward to it. The next day his receptionist called me and said that “something had come up” and he would have to cancel my appointment. I asked when I could get in and his receptionist replied that he could put me on the cancellation list and maybe get me in six weeks later. I told him I’d have to consider my options and get back to him. A couple days later I emailed Chris and asked to be scheduled in the next two weeks; otherwise I’d like my deposit back. He replied that I should just come get my deposit and that he didn’t want to do my tattoo. I was pretty butt hurt because he’d said it was a cool project and was looking forward to it, then totally flipped without an explanation. I understand that sometimes appointments don’t work out, but I think it is unacceptable that I waited a month to have mine cancelled and then was bumped to the end of the list only to be told that now he doesn’t want to do my tattoo. I think that is a bad way to operate and I hope at least one person reads this and takes their business elsewhere. In the end I’m glad it worked out this way because I found Rebirth and that dude’s portfolio looks incredible, and not just incredible for Alaska.

This is the best tattoo shop I have ever been to. Everyone who works there is so awesome! I've had piercings done by Sydny and they are perfect! By far the best piercer I have been to!I had a tattoo done by Chris. He was extremely nice and helpful! He even showed me around his shop with my mom to make me even more comfortable. His staff is so welcoming and I love them! He made my tattoo experience perfect. He knew exactly what I wanted! He took my ideas and turned them into a beautiful piece of work. I couldn't imagine it any better. I have talked to many artists and Chris is one of a kind! I'm positive there isn't any place better than Above the Rest. I get compliments on my tattoo everywhere I go. Even in different countries. Tattoo artists that see me around ask me about this my tattoo and they are very impressed. I highly recommend this shop. The shop is beautifully decorated, comfortable and very clean!!! All the other artists who work there are badass as well. I recommend this shop to everyone I see. Even my friends in other states! I will fly 2,000 miles just to get another tattoo from Chris. I am planning another tattoo with him and I can't wait to go see him and his shop again! If you go anywhere else you are just settling for less than the best!!!

My favorite tattoo shop! Everyone there is amazing. When I first went in for my tattoo I felt as if I was already friends with everyone. Atmosphere is awesome art work is phenomenal. Already have gotten 3 pieces done from the owner and ready to get my 4th!

Above the Rest Tattoo shop is top notch. I did my research and went to visit many shops in town and the valley before I chose my artist. Anyone who knows anything about getting a permanent piece of art on their body needs to know when you place a NONREFUNDABLE deposit down that means you will NOT get it back regardless of the circumstance. You leave a deposit to ensure your appt time. With that being said before you ever put a deposit down, insist on a consultation whether it be on the phone or preferred method in person. Ask for a sketch of the piece before you are sure you want to make an appt. and place a deposit. I met my artist; Jake, through Sydny my piercer and I will say this.... If you don't get a good vibe with the artist you are dealing with then do not place a deposit. Like Chris mentioned in his response, it's a waste of time for everyone involved. If you have something specific you choose to have placed on your body then be specific. Draw it out yourself even if just a rough sketch. Describe in detail, in writing, exactly what you want and why you want it. It gives your artist something to think about when trying to come up with the perfect tattoo for you. When asked to send pictures of what you want don't send multiple pictures that are completely different from one another. Be confident in what you want and make sure you make it clear to the artist you choose. Another big point I'd like to make is allowing your artist some freedom in designing your piece so it fits you. The biggest thing with getting tattoos is to trust your artist and eventually you form a friendship. I disagree completely with the last two reviews. I don't think those are fair reviews by far. Above the Rest Tattoo shop is just that, Above the Rest. It's clean. Everyone is friendly and once you form a relationship with the staff it's truly is a fun place to be. I will stand behind my words and say I would not continue doing business with the shop owned by Chris, if he was as those last reviews described. He is very busy like all of us and only has a short amount of time in a day to work. I have and will continue to HIGHLY RECOMMEND Above the Rest Tattoo Shop to anyone and everyone that asks. My tattoos are very noticeable and I get compliments all the time, and probably hand out business cards at least a few times a week. Point is, don't bash a shop of amazing artists when you have one bad experience with one person. Do your homework and be specific. If you don't feel the vibe don't do it. I have loved my experience at Above the Rest and know that there is no other place I will go to get inked. A special Thank you to Jake.... I am always in awe when I leave and excited to return.
