James is an extremely talented artist, and is the only person I trust to do my pet portrait tattoos. He only does tattoos by appointment, so the visit is calm and customized to your needs. I will absolutely be back!

Several years ago I came across James Samaniego. As soon as I saw James intricate work I knew he was the one for my first tattoo. Three tattoos later I am still amazed at his work which seems to get better with time.
When my 18 year old son informed me he wanted a meaningful tattoo prior to joining the military I knew exactly who to go to. We both decided to get a father and son tattoo which James was able accommodate us on the day. After a few hours on the table, the end result was nothing short of amazing.
I can't recommend James strongly enough. He is a true artist you can trust.

James has amazing attention to detail and his linework is the best in Texas, if not the best in the country! His designs are personalized for each customer and not at all generic. The shop is sparkling clean and private which makes for a great session. I am so lucky my trip to Houston coincided with an opening on his calendar so I could have an absolute work of art of my skin. We love Shelter Tattoo! We came in and took some photos of the shop/owner and it was such a great experience. This is definitely the best tattoo artist in houston. James is a phenomenal tattoo artist. I have gotten tattoos from multiple high-rated artists here in houston and he is, by far, my favorite and I respect his craft. He uses single needle and his hand is that of a surgeon. I waited almost a year for my appt (thanks to Covid), but the wait was definitely worth it. Great first experience! I researched a bit before choosing a tattoo artist and came across James' shop. He is by appointment only and due to his growing popularity, it may take you about a month or so to get an appointment with him but he is SO worth it! He actually scheduled us in on his off day which proved his customer care. His shop was clean and organized. His work is also clean, neat, precise, and professional! So far, people who have seen his work on me have described his work as "clean" and "professional". I'm so happy with his work product; I cannot recommend him enough.

My girlfriends and I wanted small tattoos, we did our research and chose James because based on his work with fine lines on IG. We did have to wait to find an appointment that worked for all of us, including him, but from the tattoo itself to his customer service it was worth the wait.

Hands down best tattoo experience! I had to reschedule a few times but James was very understanding. He helped me design my tattoo, he was very knowledgeable and offered a lot of insight. The shop was nice and clean and relaxing and during the session James was very personable, constantly chatting which calmed my nerves a bit.
