I had Susie do a portrait style tattoo of Winona Ryder from Beetlejuice on my lower left leg the day before Thanksgiving and it turned out great and is spot on.

You'll be on a waiting list for a while, but the wait is worth it. I'll definitely give her my business again.

I literally wouldn't recommend anyone but Elliot and David! These two are on the next level! Top tier! Amazing customer service and the outcome of every piece is just flawless!! I've had 99 percent of my work done here and I will go nowhere else. Very clean, very comfortable place to be, both very approachable artists with open ears and thoughts, also they both very much love what they do and for that they have my business. Rated one of the best in St. Louis. Please give them your thoughts and they will turn it into a masterpiece. Go check them out!!

It was my first tattoo ever! I did a lot of research on different shops & settled on this one because it was close to where I live & they were able to get me in when I wanted. The pricing was very reasonable! The shop was clean, the staff was friendly. Susie did my tattoo & she did an amazing job! She knew that it was my first tattoo, so she walked me thru everything she was doing & made me feel at ease. If I get another one, I would definitely go back! Highly recommend going here if you haven't!

Both experiences I’ve had here, the people’s attitudes are definitely off putting. I got my first tattoo here with my mom and brother, the tattoo turned out just as I wanted and I was happy with the artist I had (I don’t remember his name). I came in again with my girlfriend and was turned down for her idea. I 100% understand and justify the fact that tattoo artists can turn down tattoos, but going on and on about how difficult the tattoo would be and how much time it would take up instead of asking to schedule an appointment is not professional. I also did not appreciate being told the tattoo wouldn’t look good at all. We had a reference photo ready but felt discouraged to even show it. I get you being professionals and confident in what you do, but you do not have to belittle the guests while doing so. Things could have been handled better is all. I will not be returning but appreciate your work and the prices.

Elliott does great work. Only person I will go to from here on out. Love my rose. Didn't take long at all and healed great. Still looks amazing after a year. Very professional. Definitely recommend!

My time at Gateway Tattoo. This would be the third tattoo done by Elliott, and my first tattoo designed solely by Elliott. I went into this experience with an open mind. The day of the tattoo, I was nervous. When I arrived at the shop, he greeted me with a hello. I saw the design and fell in love with it. He informed me that he was working on a video for his website and that the session would be filmed. When we started the tattoo, I kept the talking to small talk. I felt like if I said too much it might mess him up, but it didn’t. He made sure his work was perfect. We took three breaks during the sessions. Something I really liked, it seemed to make the time go by faster. The other two artist working came over to check out the design when they finished with their clients. They both were impressed with his design. Towards the end he stepped back, looking to see if he needed to add any more details. I saw that he cared about his art; wanting it to be perfect. When he finished the tattoo. We took pictures for his website. Personal I feel like that the detail he put into the design made the tattoo pop. The realism of the tattoo is something I cannot get over. The details around the eyes, make them pop. The detail into the smoke whipping around gives the design something different. I Know I will be going back to Elliott for my next tattoo. I feel like if I had an idea, he would work with me to make it happen. I end this review with this. I have nothing but the BEST things to say about this shop and it’s artists. Everyone is amazing and hilarious. The shop itself is clean and comfortable as well. I personally drive 3 hours out of my way to get tattooed here. David Groth is my go to guy. He spits out FLAWLESS work. He has done both of my hands and I will continue to go to this shop and to him every time I can. I have an absolute blast every time I go there. I can’t WAIT to return for more work. I LOVE all of them.

I recommend anyone I can to Elliott and David at Gateway. They’ve been collaborating on my sleeve piece by piece and the work is always clean, colorful and beautiful. Both of them have light hands too so I don’t bleed too much or feel miserable while getting my work done!

Gateway is where I will get tattooed until the end of time. David Groth, Elliott Groth, Susie Balloni, & Jake Denoyer are some of the most talented and professional artists I've ever met. Super tidy shop, atmosphere is phenomenal, & artists are patient, kind, and ALWAYS honest with their professional opinion, which is something I appreciate the most. I work next door from gateway and Elliot has been doing my tattoos since he opened. I have never been disappointed leaving his shop. I always get the most compliments on the tattoos that he has done.
