Compass Rose Ink: Custom Tattoos

Never normally post reviews but Matt and his team definitely deserve one. I’ve been to a fair few tattoo parlours and compass rose was definitely one of the most comfortable and friendly. Booking an appointment was quick and easy, thank you Tracy. And once I turned up they made me feel right at home while they prepped. Matt made sure I was comfortable with the size and placement of the piece and periodically checked if I needed a break once we started. The piece came out even better than I expected and Matt’s skill is impeccable. I’ll definitely be back soon for more. If you’re looking for somewhere to get your first tattoo or your 20th I couldn’t recommend Compass Rose more.

My sister and I had no issues at all booking an appointment. We got matching moon tattoos on the backside of our wrists. Matt is incredible! He was super knowledgeable and very sterile. He made sure that my sister and I were comfortable the entire time we were in his shop, despite being in his chair or not. I feel like we also got a free history lesson about Salem! Do yourself a favor and go see Matt! He will give you an incredible tattoo and experience. He is very very nice and accepting of ALL people.

Great place, Matt is the guy I got a tattoo from, he's very easy to work with, he knows what he's doing too. He is a true artist, doesn't just do tattoo design. He draws comics on the side and is great at it. I got a tattoo from 8 years ago, and the color is still popping out. It's clear he uses top notch quality products. You got an urge for tattoo and you got ideas? Bring your ideas to Matt at Compass Rose, and he will bring it to reality. Go to Compass Rose on Main Street in Gloucester. Easy location and you can get great food in the many foodies surrounding the shop. Will make you want to come back for more.

MATT IS THE BEST ARTIST AROUND TOWN! He has such a unique style of art and expression. Some people that have left a rather nasty review claiming him to be non LGBTQ + friendly is quite frankly slandering him and seeming as wanting to get free work done. He’s never been anything but friendly, accommodating and welcoming to anyone I speak to and myself included. If you want a piece of art on your body that you will love forever, MATT AT COMPASS ROSE IS YOUR GUY!

I’ve had a couple small tattoos done years ago but after my husband passed away there’s been so many experiences with ladybugs. One will show up for almost every holiday. My grand daughter spotted one last Xmas on the light over the dinner table. So we’ve decided it’s papa coming to check in on us. I had a couple different ideas on what I wanted. Keith was awesome, he never said anything negative about my ideas but so tastefully swayed me in just the right direction. He’s awesome!! A little quiet at first. Took me awhile to realize he’s concentrating so hard on the details then he warmed right up. I would recommend him to anyone. His space is spotless, plus his artwork is amazing.

Matt and staff are awesome to work with . I’ve sat in his studio for countless hours having work done . Nothing but 100% professional

I have been to this shop talking about which design I want. He has tattooed many friends to which I have been there to witness . Matt is an amazing artist that takes pride in his work as well as he should ! He’s very talented! Matt is VERY professional and always does what the client wants . Matt is truly a professional in every sense of the word. His tattoo work especially cover ups is top notch, I know from personal experience. I highly recommend him to everyone I know looking to get a tattoo.

The review written most recently slandering this tattoo studio and Matt is unacceptable and is complete defamation of character. My husband and I have been getting tattoos with Compass Rose and Matt for years. For those that do not have much experience getting tattoos, the artist holds the area being tattooed still throughout the session and wipes away excess ink/ blood to have visibility of the work at hand. It is not very comfortable however a tattoo BY DEFINITION is a form of body modification made by inserting tattoo ink, dyes, and/or pigments, either indelible or temporary, into the dermis layer of the skin to form a design via needle. Wow its uncomfortable THATS SO WEIRD!!! Additionally, across all of my sessions, Matt has always been patient when I have needed a break to stand or a pause because of the pain. One time actually, during a session, I became light headed and nauseous, he jumped into action and got me some cookies to help me out of it. If you walk into his studio, you will see how diverse his portfolio of work is across race, religion, all sorts of genres, backgrounds. He is a veteran as well and served our country, speaking volumes to his character. If you want a quality tattoo, Compass Rose is the place to go.
